Facing Worries Program

The Facing Worries Group Treatment Program
People with GAD often feel that there is nothing they can do about their excessive and chronic worry, or they may simply not know where to seek help. As a result, excessive worry can be life-long if not treated effectively and can also lead to depression. On the positive side, excessive worry can be treated, with sufferers often experiencing a significant improvement within a relatively short period of time.

The Facing Worries Treatment program
Our current treatment program is free of charge and is held on campus at Macquarie University which runs for two hours each week for 8 weeks. The group is open to the public.  It doesn't matter whether you are a student of the university or not. The program is aimed at assisting those who worry about a range of things and whose main goal is to reduce the amount they worry. Participants work in small groups, developing skills along with others who share similar difficulties. They can develop skills for managing their worry through practical and common sense strategies, and will be encouraged to take an active role in their improvement by engaging in practice exercises outside of sessions.

The strategies taught in the program include:
1) learning to identify times when you are worrying;
2) learning how worrying may be a way of avoid facing problems and;
3) learning to develop  strategies to approach the issues that are cause us to worry.

What commitment does the program ask of me?
Whilst the program is free, we do ask that you try to attend every session to get the benefits of the program.  The development of our treatment programs and the continued advancement of our knowledge about worry would have been impossible without the support of the many clients over the years who have generously offered their support to our research endeavours. Also as it is a research trial, we will be asking you to complete a series of questionnaires before and after the program to determine your progress.

What do I do now?
