Social Phobia Program

The Social Phobia Group Treatment program
Our current clinical research program for social phobia gives you access to our highly effective 12 week group treatment program. This program has been developed through our research unit over the past decade and includes innovative treatment techniques that have been shown to be superior to commonly used treatment approaches. Each group consists of between six to eight participants, and is led by a therapist with specialist skills in clinical psychology and the treatment of social phobia. Groups are offered at convenient times, outside of work hours.
In addition to receiving our best-practice treatment, you will also be taking part in a new treatment component that aims to improve people’s attentional control. This part of our treatment is experimental and we do not yet know whether this will lead to further improvements for participants above the success of the existing program. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a program that continues to research ground-breaking methods for maximising people’s success in overcoming their social anxiety.

How do I get involved in this program?
Before you commence treatment you will be asked to complete an assessment interview and a number of questionnaires to determine if this program will be able to address your needs. The cost of the assessment process is $150. If the program is suitable, you will be offered a place in one of our 12 week treatment groups. The sessions run over consecutive weeks and are held in the evenings from 6-9pm. Due to funding we have received to research treatments for social anxiety the cost to you for this treatment is only $300, which includes a bond of $100, which will be reimbursed upon completion of future research.  In order to help us continue to monitor how effective our treatment is at helping people with social phobia, we will also be re-assessing you immediately after the treatment program has finished (for which you will be reimbursed $50), and 6 months after it has finished (for which you will be reimbursed $50). We will also ask you to fill out some more questionnaires at this time.

What do I do now?
To see if you are suitable for this trial we will need to ask you some questions. Please contact one of our friendly and well trained staff members at the clinic on (02) 9850 8711 for more information.
